What is primary care?

Primary care is a general medical field that addresses conditions involving many parts of your body. MAR Primary Care provides primary care services to men and women 17 and older 

A primary care physician becomes the main point of contact for any medical issues you experience. Unless a condition is life-threatening or requires emergency care, your primary care provider can evaluate, diagnose, and treat it. They can also refer you to other trusted specialists for more specific care. 

Your primary care physician also becomes familiar with your personal medical history and family medical history. The more they get to know you, the better they can personalize your care. If you have a chronic disease, they become familiar with its history and your history of managing it.  

When should I visit my primary care physician?

There are many reasons to visit your primary care physician, but they can be split into two categories. The first is a routine physical exam, also called a checkup. You don’t need to be sick to come in for a checkup and find out more about your health. In fact, you should get one once a year. 

You can also visit your primary care physician for a sick visit. Sick visits are necessary when you have symptoms that don’t go away with home care or rest or if you get a minor injury that doesn’t require emergency care. You might book a sick visit if you have the following symptoms:
